THE GIRL WHO COULD BREATHE UNDER WATER, by Erin Bartels, a book review

As I got into the book, THE GIRL WHO COULD BREATHE UNDER WATER, by Erin Bartels, I found the backstory and the layers of the story very intriguing. It was beautifully written and as I read deeper and longer it became a real page turner.

At first, I was a bit confused about who Kendra was continually talking to in her mind, but finally figured it out.

This is my third book that I’ve read by Erin and she is writing better each time. Although published by Revell there is not a lot of Christian content, but it was not written in a worldly way, either.

The family dysfunctions and abuses were sadly all too familiar to me. The author’s note at the end made me both sad for and proud of Erin. In my experience most of these types of abuses are not singular or exposed, sometimes leaving lifetime scars.  I thank Erin for her courage in revealing her pain.

I loved the characters in the book, especially Andreas. Also, I really felt for Kendra when she learned the real family secret. In real life these things don’t always get revealed while the parents are alive. That, too, happened to me, but too late for any closure or resolution.

Although I was given a free book for my review, I was not told how to review it by Revell. I’m always happy to read and review books by Erin.
